NHS Trust Chief Executive and GP leader appointed to support local NHS in developing new Forward View care models

NHS England, Monitor and TDA on behalf of the six national NHS bodies who led the development of the NHS Five Year Forward View have today appointed two experienced national leaders to support implementation of the new care models identified in the Forward View.

Samantha Jones, Chief Executive of Watford, St Albans and Hemel Hempstead Hospitals has been appointed as Director of New Models of Care, and will join NHS England on secondment.  She was named the HSJ Chief Executive of the Year 2014.

Sir Sam Everington will help lead national work on primary care-driven care models and service redesign. Dr Everington is a senior GP in Tower Hamlets, a CCG chair, board member of NHS Clinical Commissioners, trustee of the Kings Fund, and member of the BMA Council.

In addition, Dr Don Berwick will provide advice in international models of care integration, beginning with an event on January 23rd.

    I hope that the Forward View will take account of my proposals to empower GPs to prescribe NICE recommended Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) courses as easily as Prozac, and for patients to access them at Community Care Centres. This would solve the crisis by relieving pressure on GPs and A&E, see papers on my website

    I trust that this work will be assisted by direct patient involvement so that we do not end up with Models of Care designed to suit the organisations and not patients.

        Thanks – My comment was specific to this aspect. I am aware of current engagement activity. Can I ask you to explain in relation to the models of care how are patients and the public being involved in developing the policy around how models of care are being implemented.
