NHS inpatient elective admission events and outpatient referrals and attendances, quarter ending 30 June 2015

NHS inpatient and outpatient waiting events figures for the quarter ending 30 June 2015 include data for England, Regions and NHS Trusts and Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs).

The figures for a quarter can be affected by the number of working days, and data are adjusted for this where appropriate, to allow comparison on a like-for-like basis. April to June 2014 and April to June 2015 both had 61 working days. This means that we have not needed to make adjustments for working days in the figures below.

The key points from the latest release are:

Inpatient Events

From Q1 2014/15 to Q1 2015/16 the number of decisions to admit increased by 70,500 (4.8%) to 1.5 million. The number of elective admissions from the list increased by 63,803 (4.8%) to 1.4 million.

Outpatient Referrals and attendances

From Q1 2014/15 to Q1 2015/16 the number of GP referrals made increased by 73,377 (2.3%) to 3.3 million and the number of other referrals made increased by 67,963 (3.6%) to 2.0 million.

From Q1 2014/15 to Q1 2015/16 first attendances at consultant outpatient clinics increased by 91,106 (2.0%) to 4.6 million and total attendances increased by 206,605 (1.5%) to 14.3 million.

Did not attend (DNA) rate for first outpatients appointment for Q1 2015/16 was 8.5% compared to 8.6% for Q1 2014/15.

The Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust did not submit data for this quarter.
