Patient safety alert: risk of death or severe harm from inadvertent intravenous administration of solid organ perfusion fluids

We have issued a patient safety alert asking hospitals with transplant units to review the storage of organ perfusion fluids to reduce the chance of confusion with fluids intended for administration to patients. Other hospitals, please remove all solid organ perfusion fluids from clinical areas.

2018/19 planning round

Thank you for all the work that you and your colleagues have put into developing your 2018/19 plans. As you prepare your final plan submissions we thought it would be helpful to share high level feedback on the first cut of plans and our expectations for the plans due in during the next two weeks.

Last chance to nominate staff for a black and minority ethnic (BME) inspirational leader award

You have until midnight Friday 27 April to nominate an inspirational BME leader for a Windrush 70 award, which celebrate the contributions of BME staff to the NHS.


Webinar: end of life care learning

This webinar, led by Dr Catherine Hayle, consultant in palliative medicine, will give insight into the palliative care journey at Wirral University Teaching Hospital. It’s for all directors of nursing and those working in palliative and end of life care.

TPP is removing the consent override function from all its systems on 23 April to address concerns raised by GPs and the Information Commissioner’s Office.

Advance care planning for people with dementia

To support the Dementia Challenge 2020,  NHS England has developed ‘My future wishes: advance care planning (ACP) for people with dementia in all care settings’.  It helps practitioners, providers and health and social care commissioners to create opportunities for people living with dementia to develop an ACP.
