Chief executive performance ratings in NHS trusts

As in previous years, we will be reviewing CEO performance ratingsopens in a new window in NHS trusts for moderation, and approving any performance related pay to very senior managers in ambulance NHS trusts and community NHS trusts.

So we can conduct this review, please return the templates (labelled as appendices) by 5pm Friday 13 July.

Reducing reliance on medical agency staff: sharing what works

Our new guide highlights common strategies trusts have used to successfully reduce reliance on medical agency spend.

All the trusts included have a lower medical agency spend compared to other trusts in their regions, because of strategies such as senior leadership oversight, reviewing workforce planning and utilising medical banks.

Patient experience improvement framework

We have published an evidence-based framework centred around Care Quality Commission key themes to enable boards and senior teams to continuously improve the experience of patients.

NHS pay deal: trade union ballot result

Last Friday, the staff side of the NHS Staff Council accepted the proposed deal on pay for NHS staffopens in a new window, based on trade union consultation exercises. The deal is due to be ratified on Wednesday 27 June and we will work with NHS Employers to support trusts as the deal is implemented.

Cost of living pay increase for very senior managers

As in previous years, we will make a recommendation in the coming months about cost of living increases for very senior managers (VSMs). We will do this once the Agenda for Change cost of living award has been confirmed and the Senior Salaries Review Body and Doctor and Dentist Review Body have made their recommendations.

In the meantime, please do not agree cost of living awards for your VSMs for 2018/19.

Applications for our demand and capacity trainer programme are now open

This free, accredited, six-month programme is designed to develop organisations’ capability and skills to reduce waiting times for patients.

The programme, which is being offered across the country, will equip you to train others and spread knowledge more widely at a local level. The training for cohort 7 will be in London but colleagues from all regions can apply.
