NHS England Board has established a number of Committees to help in the discharge of its duties. The details of these Committees are set out below:
New guidance approved
The task and finish group, under Sir Malcolm Grant, put forward recommendations for new guidance on managing conflicts of interest in the NHS. This guidance was approved at the NHS Board on 9 February 2017.
Audit and Risk Assurance Committee (ARAC)
Provides the Board with independent and objective advice in relation to its financial and governance obligations and compliance with all relevant legislation and guidance, including the HM Treasury’s guidance Managing Public Money.
Advises the Board on development and implementation of strategy for the commissioning sector, agrees commissioning priorities and resource allocation, and receives assurance that performance, quality and financial outcomes are delivered. It oversees assurance and development of the commissioning system.
Specialised Services Commissioning Committee
Advises the Board on development and implementation of strategy for specialised commissioning, agreeing specialised commissioning priorities and work programmes, and receiving assurance that these are delivered.
Receives assurance and agree recommendations on business cases for activities related to NHS England’s functions, on behalf of the Board. It oversees the assurance of reconfigurations and has delegated powers to make decisions on those requiring Board sign-off.
Strategic Human Resources and Remuneration Committee (SHRRC)
Advises the Board on Board and organisational development and recommends the remuneration and terms of service for the Chief Executive and National Directors to the Department of Health and/or HM Treasury.
The Board receives regular reports from each of these committees at their meetings held in public, with the exception of the SHRRC. Due to the confidential nature of the business discussed at SHRRC, reports from this committee are received at the board meeting held in the closed session.
