@NHS from 12/12/16 to 16/12/16
Job title: Operating Department Practitioner
Place of work: Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Gateshead
I began working for the NHS in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital as a catering assistant on 15 December 2001 . While doing this job I became passionate about the hospital and really enjoyed helping the patients I was meeting. I was then offered a job as a care assistant. In September 2004 I accepted a post as a Phlebotomist and acquired the skills of taking blood samples which seen me work on every ward in the Hospital. During this time I was supported by the trust while I attended Gateshead College and gained my HEFC’s.
In September 2009 I was extremely fortunate to be offered a secondment to Northumbria University where I gained my Diploma in Operating Department Practice. In 2011 when I graduated from university I was offered my current post as an Anaesthetic & Recovery Practitioner.
I am very passionate about my role and work alongside other ODP’s to share professional development and raise the profile of our profession.
When I am not working I am Mam to Jake 15 and Neve 11. We really enjoy spending family time together doing various activities and I enjoy supporting them in their after school activities.
A perfect day would be….
A morning workout, a great day at work followed by a family meal and a glass of red wine in the evening with a good book.
