Condition or job title: Consultant in Emergency Medicine, Major Trauma Lead, Pre-hospital Doctor
Place of treatment/care or workplace: University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire NHS Trust
I have been a Consultant in Emergency Medicine for the last ten years and this year I also became the Major Trauma Lead for University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire NHS Trust, one of the four Major Trauma Centres in the West Midlands. My specialist interests are Major Trauma, Resuscitation, and Research.
I have 19 years experience as a pre-hospital doctor and am currently the Deputy Clinical Lead for The Air Ambulance Service working 2-3 shifts a month out of Coventry Airport and East Midlands Airport. I was the West Midlands PHEM Training Programme Director for five years and I am currently involved in the Faculty of Pre-hospital Care Executive Board and as an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
My other roles include Associate Editor of the Emergency Medicine Journal, Vice Chair of the charity Trauma Care, and I direct the West Midlands Emergency Surgical Skills course for doctors, paramedics, and nurses out of Coventry.
During my week curating @NHS, I am hoping to give you an insight into the career of an Emergency Medicine and Pre-hospital Emergency Medicine doctor, to share with you some of the challenges and joys of my work, and to show how important it is to work in a strong team.
