Condition or job title: Consultant Obstetric Physician
Place of treatment/care or workplace: John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford and Queen Charlotte’s and Chelsea Hospital, London.
I am a Consultant in Obstetric Medicine and Acute General Medicine at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. I also work at Queen Charlotte’s and Chelsea Hospital in Obstetric Medicine. I trained at Cambridge for pre-clinical medicine, Oxford for clinical medicine and remained in Oxford as a junior doctor and alongside my training in acute and general medicine, I also spent some time ‘out of programme’ training in Obstetric Medicine. I am passionate about delivering excellent care to women where medical problems complicate pregnancy, but also about educating juniors in a multitude of specialties about the care of pregnant women with medical problems. I am co editor-in-chief of the international journal ‘Obstetric Medicine: the medicine of pregnancy’ and have just written ‘Obstetric Medicine’, the first book in the Oxford Specialist Handbook of Obstetrics and Gynaecology series, which is currently in production.
I have three young children and have recently returned to clinical practice from maternity leave. I have previously set up courses for trainees in the Oxford region who are returning to practice after a period of parental leave, to both update them with new developments in their field as well as address practical challenges that arise in this setting.
