Job title: Final Year Medical Student
Place of work: University of Cambridge, Addenbrookes Hospital
Hello! My name is Chidera, and I am a final year medical student at the University of Cambridge. I am originally from Kent, and of Nigerian (Igbo to be specific) heritage. I’ll be moving to St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, later on in the summer. At the moment, I have just finished (and passed!) finals, so will be focusing on preparing myself for my foundation year in my apprenticeship block. This will involve shadowing a Foundation Doctor, and focusing on improving my clinical skills and reasoning, and also making sure that I am resilient enough in mind and body to with stand the stress of my first year as a doctor.
I’m trying to fit some research in alongside this; I am particularly interested in neurosurgery, so try to spend as much time as I can building a good portfolio for when I apply to specialty training. I also blog a little in my spare time, on my YouTube channel and Instagram. This is primarily geared towards helping young people with their own applications to medical school, and giving some insight into what life is like here.
