Condition or job title: Consultant Ophthalmologist at Manchester Foundation Trust, Associate Medical Director at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, Chair of Training at the Royal College of Ophthalmologists

Place of treatment/care or workplace: Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, Manchester Foundation Trust

I am a Consultant Ophthalmologist working at a dedicated Eye Hospital in Manchester. I provide a specialist Glaucoma service, for patients both in Greater Manchester and travelling from right across the North West. I have been passionate about developing the multi-disciplinary team and transforming the service to meet our patients’ needs. I am looking forward to telling you about the work of our close-knit team and about how we diagnose and manage glaucoma and undertake cataract surgery to preserve sight.

As an Associate Medical Director in the Trust I have the opportunity to help deliver high quality care across the Eye Hospital and work to ensure it is good value for the NHS whilst remaining the patient’s advocate. I think it is important to be a compassionate leader and support others to achieve.

Training and education has always been a passion and I have held many roles in training including being an Associate Director of Medical Education in the Trust and Chair of Curriculum at the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. As Chair of Training I am able to set or enhance the standards for training the next generation of ophthalmologists across the UK. This covers areas such as Curriculum development, recruitment, quality assurance and evaluation, overseas doctors training in the UK and I will be telling you more about this too. Supporting young doctors is vital for the future of the NHS.

Of course, my most important job is as a mother of two teenagers! Somehow I find time to fit in baking, as I have a weakness for cake, and feel inspired by travel with my family.
