@NHS from 4/12/17 to 8/12/17
Job title: Head of Midwifery
Place of treatment/care or work: Yeovil Hospital
I qualified as a midwife 28 years ago and have worked across both community and acute settings before moving into midwifery management in 2004.
I’ve got a particular interest in public health midwifery and promoting choice and personalisation in birth, supporting women and families to achieve the best birth experience for them. I’m proud to be the Head of Midwifery of a small rural maternity service that strives to provide a safe, high quality service for women and babies in South Somerset.
I work with a great multidisciplinary team and I really enjoy the camaraderie that goes with what I think is the best job in the world! I live in the Ilse of Purbeck on the Jurassic coast and am married with two grown up sons. I’m eligible to retire next year but I’m having far too much fun still being a midwife to even think about that!
It’s a complete privilege to be a midwife and to date I’ve supported over 1000 women to give birth. Many of those babies are now having babies of their own. These days my focus is more on developing maternity services and supporting midwives coming into the profession to achieve their full potential. However I really love it when I get the chance to meet women and their partners at what is one of the most significant moments of their lives as this reminds me what it is all about.
