Hello, my name is Laura and I have been a Ward Sister at Leicester Royal Infirmary for 2 and a half years. I am passionate about being a Nurse and always wanted to be a Nurse for as long as I can remember. I trained at Demontfort University in Leicester in 2008, and upon qualifying as a Registered Adult Nurse, I have been working at Leicester Royal Infirmary. I am currently the Ward Sister of a General Medical Ward, where we look after patients with multiple diseases and disorders including Diabetes, DVT’s, Chest infections, and lipid disorders.
I have recently been to India to recruit Qualified Nurses, who wish to come and work in the UK. It was one of the most rewarding and humbling experiences of my career, listening to their interviews where they displayed compassion and enthusiasm to work in the UK.
In my spare time, I love baking, walking Benji my 3 year old dog, watching Disney films, reading romantic/comedy books, eating chocolate fudge cake, buying scatter cushions and candles, and shoes… lots of shoes!
I am REALLY lucky to have a large, loving, supportive and close family and friends who always push me to achieve my dreams and ambitions!
My biggest idol, is my Nanna! She left Ireland on her own, as a 16 year old, for a better life. She tells me every day “You can do anything you want to in life, you just have to give it your all and go for it” and I do! And thanks to her, she has been right… I have always achieved what I wanted to!
I am really passionate about the NHS, and believe a lot of hard working, genuinely good people, make it what it is! And I can’t wait for everyone to meet some of these people as I take over the @NHS twitter account!
