NHS Federated Data Platform – Canonical Data Model

The NHS FDP Canonical Data Model (CDM) is the common data model of the NHS Federated Data Platform (FDP). It is consistent across trusts and integrated care boards, providing a standardised framework for building products and enabling rapid deployment across organisations. The NHS FDP CDM is publicly available and accessible on the NHS England GitHub.

The NHS FDP CDM is an implementation of the logical CDM, which is an NHS-developed model to standardise the collection, storage, and dissemination of data across NHS-related platforms and products.

Updates to the NHS FDP CDM are expected to be published to the GitHub repository monthly, or more frequently as needed. The intent is to expand the CDM aligned to products in current development. Proposed updates will be assessed to avoid the need for any breaking changes unless deemed absolutely necessary.

If you have a suggestion to enhance the NHS FDP CDM for your specific use case or product, please submit a proposal to england.fdp@nhs.net
