Academic Health Science Networks: delivering today, for the health and care of tomorrow
Established by the NHS to drive transformation at pace and scale, the country’s 15 Academic Health Science Networks have forged a vital role in helping the NHS meet the challenges of 21st century health and care as described in the 5YFV. The only bodies that connect all partners across sectors, AHSNs find solutions to health and care challenges – individually and collectively they have made good use of their unique connections with the NHS, universities, industry, patients and the third sector.
Focused on rapidly spreading health innovation, using their local networks and national connections, the AHSNs are catalysts that create the right conditions for change across whole health and social care economies, bringing people together, brokering new collaborations and connecting industry innovators with health partners. They find solutions to identified problems, from tapping into the pipeline of evidence-based research through to commercialisation of smart innovations. In their first four years AHSNs have created effective regional networks able to deliver innovation and improvement within the NHS.
