Pharmacy – Whitechapel, London
“Pharmacy teams play a crucial role in the delivery of a net zero health service – with medicines accounting for 25% of all NHS carbon emissions.”
Harj is the Lead Medicines Management Pharmacy Technician at the Royal London Hospital, part of Barts Health NHS Trust – one of the largest Trusts in the NHS. He understands that pharmacy professionals play a crucial role in the delivery of a net zero health service, through reducing waste and supporting patients with their medication.
At the Royal London, the team are passionate about improving the sustainability of their pharmacy. Harj runs a waste reduction scheme, whereby medication is returned and reused, or recycled, where-ever possible using strict criteria. Across the Trust, zero waste has been sent to landfill since 2013.
