The work of the NHS Improvement Cytology Improvement Programme demonstrated that simple changes to the process can deliver improvements in quality, safety, and productivity, to deliver an equitable service for all women. This document is designed to be used in conjunction with the first Cytology Improvement Guide – Achieving a 14 day turnaround time in cytology (November 2009), Cytology Self Assessment Tool and the Bringing Lean to Life document.

Summary

This document builds on the learning from phase 1 of the Cytology Improvement Programme and demonstrates the importance of sustainability and how implementing what we know works can accelerate the pace of change.
