This is the eighth of a set of fifteen guides produced by the NHS Institute of Innovation and Improvement covering 3 themes: General Improvement Skills, Process and Systems Thinking and Personal and Organisational Development.

The Guides provide practical advice for use by anyone who wants to include service improvement in their work and are applicable to all areas of health care relating to service improvement.


This guide develops the key measures of improvement which help staff understand the impact of changes made, share successes when things go well and learn when things don’t go so well.
