National Induction Framework

Our new national induction framework is now available for all new joiners of health and social care.

The national entry-level induction is for everyone who joins health and social care. It is designed to inform, guide and navigate new starters across complex organisations, sectors about how they deliver joined up services. The content can be used across all types of NHS and social care employers. There are helpful guides and templates for recruiting managers to support new joiners.

In October 2021, the secretary of state for health and social care commissioned General Sir Gordon Messenger and Dame Linda Pollard, to examine the state of leadership and management in the health and social care sector. The findings, report and subsequent recommendations were published on Wednesday 8 June 2022.

If we are to meet the ambitions of the NHS Long Term Workforce Plan, added and urgent focus is needed to support the NHS to attract and retain more people, working differently in a compassionate and inclusive culture.

The national induction framework has been delivered by NHS England for healthcare, working with Skills for Care on behalf of social care.
