Case study summary
Barnet, Enfield & Haringey Mental Health Trust used their NHS England transforming care grant to fund an innovative ten-week intensive support package for three families.
Working closely with specialist services and a respected community-based project, the sessions helped the parents improve their skills on emotional containment and reciprocity with their children, and develop future behavioural management strategies for their children’s challenging behaviour.
Feedback from the parents was overwhelmingly positive, saying they felt totally listened to, discussed what they wished to discuss, understood what was said and were given ideas for what to do next. The parents seemed to value the flexible nature of the support offered by family support workers. The initial findings from the three families indicate that parental stress was reduced for all families by the end of the intervention period.
