Almost two thirds of Londoners would now consider a career in the NHS

To celebrate the start of National Careers Week (7 March – 12 March), brand new survey results released by the NHS reveal that 66% of Londoners would consider a career in the NHS.

Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, the outstanding efforts of the NHS have come down to the commitment and dedication of its workforce and new research released today reveals that 85% of Londoners feel the pandemic has made them more appreciative of the work of NHS staff. The new research also highlighted that 84% of people acknowledged that a career within the NHS would be extremely rewarding.

With National Careers Week beginning today, the NHS in London is encouraging those due to leave education or contemplating a career change to consider utilising the opportunities and training programmes available within the NHS.

Chief Nurse for the NHS in London, Jane Clegg said:

“Throughout the pandemic, our staff have truly shown their passion and dedication towards colleagues and the patients they care for. We have supported thousands of patients and families when they have needed it most, and have been able to do so due to the collaborative nature of our teams.

“If you are considering a change of career, the breadth of roles available within the NHS mean there really is something for everyone as we continue to bring our health service from strength to strength. The variety of opportunities available may help you find a new passion and there is no better time to join us than now.”

London Ambulance Service Emergency Ambulance Crew, Hina Pajwani, from Hampton, joined the Service just before the pandemic, utilising an apprenticeship which has given her the opportunity to train towards becoming a paramedic.Hina said:

“I used to work for a rugby club however I was always interested in starting a career in healthcare. Through London Ambulance Service’s apprenticeship route I’m able to gain the skills needed to become a qualified paramedic while putting all the theory I’m learning into practice working shifts on the frontline and earning a salary.

“I knew this was the right choice for me to help me get to where I wanted to be and I am excited to become a fully qualified paramedic and continue doing all I can to care for Londoners in need.”

The We are the NHS campaign continues to highlight the variety of careers within the healthcare industry and aims to motivate and inspire others who may be considering a role in the NHS to seek out training opportunities for a host of roles available including in Nursing, with Allied Health Professions (AHPs) and as Healthcare Support Workers (HCSWs).
