Complications of Excess Weight Clinics

Complications of Excess Weight (CEW) Clinics help children and young people who have complications from excess weight. This is part of a nationally funded 2-year pilot programme.

Key referral criteria (must meet all 3):

  • Obesity
  • Significant obesity-related medical comorbidity that would benefit from weight loss (eg type 2 diabetes, sleep apnoea, NAFLD with fibrosis) that has not responded to treatment with specialist team OR Severe Obesity – BMI is currently set at >3.33 Z Score
  • Family wants help to change

1. North West London and North Central London CEW – based at Great Ormond Street Hospital, in collaboration with UCLH
Eligible Patients:
North-central London (NCL): Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey, Islington
North-west London (NWL): Brent, Ealing, Hammersmith & Fulham, Harrow, Hillingdon, Hounslow, Kensington & Chelsea, Westminster

2. South West London CEW – based at St George’s Hospital
Eligible patients: South-west London (SWL): Croydon, Kingston, Merton, Richmond, Sutton, Wandsworth

3. North East London CEW – based at Royal London Hospital (Barts Health)
Eligible patients: North-east London (NEL): Barking & Dagenham, City & Hackney, Havering, Newham, Tower Hamlets, Redbridge, Waltham Forest
