NHS London Core Managers Programme
The NHS London People & Culture, Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Team has developed the award nominated Core Managers Training Programme training series, which provides free inclusive leadership training for all health and social care staff in London, and beyond. The programme is now available on the NHS Learning Hub.
Why join?
- Build a more inclusive and compassionate workplace
- Understand the diverse cultures within the NHS
- Become an effective ally and active bystander
- Strengthen your inclusive leadership skills
The programme offers a suite of seven short courses, contributing to more inclusive, compassionate workplaces and supporting behavioural change.
- Inclusive Leadership – the first six-week course in the series, which focuses on inclusive and compassionate leadership, will help managers and supervisors to develop the skills needed to improve diversity and equality in the health and care sector. It’s recommended when registering that completion of the Inclusive Leadership course is done first within the suite.
- Creating a Psychological Contract – the second five-week course in the series enables participants to harness their inclusive leadership skills to create and maintain good psychological contracts, which are unwritten agreements that define the relationship, commitments and expectations between leadership and staff.
- Noticing and Challenging Microaggressions – the third course in the series focuses on what microaggressions look like, and what participants can do to challenge them in any healthcare facility.
- Effective Allyship – the fourth course in the series enables participants to understand what being an ally is and how allyship can lead to positive culture change in any healthcare facility.
- Increasing Disability Positivity – the fifth course in the series enables participants to create a disability positive culture to empower all team members to work effectively and succeed in their role.
- LGBTQIA+ Inclusion –sixth course in the series enables participants to learn about LGBTQIA+ communities and develop practical skills to foster LGBTQIA+ inclusive workplace environments.
- Sexual Safety in Healthcare – this seventh course in the series enables participants to respond effectively to inappropriate or harmful sexual behaviours, build environments that prevent such behaviours and learn good practice for supporting staff
The online training will help you to develop the leadership skills needed to improve diversity and equality in health and care. From gaining an understanding of core equality and diversity policies to putting theory into practice, you’ll learn the impact that discrimination, privilege, intersectionality and allyship have in the workplace. You will also get to reflect on how your work experiences have shaped your own attitudes, identify staff and groups who need support, and design policies that allow you to lead inclusively.
The online programme is flexible, so you can learn at your own pace. We strongly encourage all health and social care staff to take up this great opportunity, which is part of the driving force to make equality a reality for health and social care staff in London and beyond.
