London Million Hearts and Minds

Cardiovascular disease is one of the main causes of early death in England, and high blood pressure is a major contributing factor. It is often called the “silent killer” because it typically has no symptoms. Over 500,000 Londoners have high blood pressure and don’t know it. The good news is that high blood pressure is preventable.

London Million Hearts and Minds is a city-wide movement running from 2025 to 2030 that aims to help people live longer, healthier lives by encouraging more people to check their blood pressure and take simple steps to improve their heart health.

The programme focuses on three key areas:
  • helping people make healthier lifestyle choices
  • identifying and treating risks such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol and irregular heartbeat earlier
  • reducing health inequalities by supporting communities most at risk of cardiovascular disease.
Together, these actions can help prevent heart attacks and strokes and improve heart health across London.

Share your story

We’re looking for people who have had their blood pressure checked or taken steps to manage their blood pressure and would be willing to share their experience. By telling your story, you can help others understand why checking your blood pressure matters and encourage people to take action for their own health.

We’re particularly interested in hearing from Black and South Asian people aged 40 to 55, and people working in flexible, temporary or self-employed jobs..
