Responsible officer training and networks

Understanding the role of the RO

An e-learning package has been developed and is available through the four NHS England regional teams for new ROs and those in their teams who need an understanding of the role of the RO.

The e-learning provides basic information to assist new ROs in understanding the responsibilities of the role and should be undertaken as soon as possible when an RO has been appointed. All ROs are expected to join the next available one and a half day training event which builds on the e-learning and provides further clarification on the role and an opportunity for discussions and shared learning with other ROs.

Responsible Officer Training

This training provides a valuable opportunity for responsible officers to share ideas, expertise and best practice and is open to:

  • Current ROs and their revalidation support teams if not previously trained
  • ROs who may have missed some RO training sessions (the previous modules)
  • New ROs
  • Potential future ROs
  • ROs who may wish to refresh their training

This training also provides a valuable opportunity for responsible officers to share ideas, expertise and best practice.

The e-learning package will be made available in advance of training and will need to be completed prior to attending the training event.

For dates and booking details, please contact england.revalidation-south@nhs.net. Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis and registration will be closed once capacity has been reached so please ensure you book as early as possible.

Networks

Responsible officers are expected to attend and engage actively in four network meetings each year, at quarterly intervals. Each regional team run network meetings on a range of dates and venues, each quarter. Responsible officers are very welcome to attend network meetings in regions/areas other than their ‘home patch’. Indeed this is positively encouraged to increase the level of cross-reference with approaches across the regions. A schedule of regional network events can be found by clicking the relevant regional page, or a full list is available under the ‘events’ page.
