Sustainability and Transformation Partnerships and Integrated Care Systems

What are STPs?

Sustainability and Transformation Partnerships (STPs) are local partnerships to improve health and care. The NHS and local councils are developing and implementing shared proposals to improve health and care in every part of England.

Over the next few years, these represent the biggest national move to join up care in any major western country. In some areas, a partnership will evolve to form an Integrated Care System (ICS), a new type of even closer collaboration. In an integrated care system, NHS organisations, in partnership with local councils and others, take collective responsibility for managing resources, delivering NHS standards, and improving the health of the population they serve.
