Free flu vaccinations for staff working in care homes in Coventry, Herefordshire, Warwickshire and Worcestershire

Staff working in care homes in Coventry, Herefordshire, Warwickshire and Worcestershire are being offered the opportunity to be protected against seasonal flu this winter.

The free flu vaccinations are available from participating GP practices and many pharmacies in these areas until 31 March 2015.
Dr Ash Banerjee, Screening and Immunisations Lead says: “Our aim is to reduce the risk of flu outbreaks in care homes by offering inactivated influenza vaccination to all staff working at a CQC registered nursing or residential care home based in Coventry, Herefordshire, Warwickshire or Worcestershire.”

“Flu is a very unpleasant, even occasionally life-threatening illness. Any vaccine-preventable disease that can transmit from person to person poses a risk to both healthcare professionals and their patients.”

Immunisation of healthcare workers can help to:

  • Protect the individual and their family from occupationally-acquired infection
  • Protect patients and service users, including vulnerable patients who may not respond well to their own immunisation
  • Protect other healthcare workers
  • Allow for the efficient running of services without disruption
