Work well

Think about careers and volunteering opportunities across the NHS and the care sector – support the NHS and each other

More people, working differently, in a modern, inclusive and compassionate culture – that’s the future of our NHS. We’re proud that our workforce is one of the most diverse and vibrant in the world and we want to help all NHS employers attract and retain the best NHS people.

Our NHS People

The 1.5 million people working in the NHS are extraordinary. They work hard to provide world-class care for our patients, citizens and communities, day in and day out – and never more so than during the last few months.

On the NHS birthday, we want to thank each and every one of them for their incredible dedication to protecting our nation’s health.

In 2020, we also want to thank all those who have joined the NHS to help us face our biggest-ever challenge – those who have come back to the workforce, those who have worked outside their specialism, and those who have expressed interest in joining us.

In an emergency, change can be achieved very quickly and the pandemic has meant we have been able to accelerate a range of measures we have been developing since the Interim People Plan to help make the NHS the best place to work. In this section, we’ve highlighted some of these actions which are now supporting staff, helping them to develop their careers, and encourage others to join our health and care family.

We will continue to work together as a single NHS to ensure #OurNHSPeople get the support they need to recover from all COVID-19 has demanded of them and continue their fantastic work
