NHS 70 Focus on Mental Health

Over the past 70 years mental health has seen massive strides in funding, diagnosis, treatments and reducing the stigma that used to surround it.   No longer do we have asylums where the mentally ill are locked away from society; –mental health is seen as just as important as physical health and care in the home and in the community is now the norm.

We have invested in brand new state of the art in-patient facilities.   More and more psychological therapy is now accessible either through your GP or online via the telephone and lots of these services are self-referral, meaning it is easier to get  access.  The advent of social media groups and apps like Headspace mean access to immediate help and support from people with the same or similar condition on mobile devices.

During 8th May – 18th May 2018 we want to celebrate the many, many changes which have happened across the whole of Mental Health.  We will be tweeting in partnership with all our partnerships (STPs) during this period with each taking over our twitter account for one day to tell their stories.  Please help support the focus on mental health by tweeting using #NHS70MHNorth to promote all the positive changes which have happened over the past 70 years in your own service, area or organisation.

Market place

Are you involved in mental health care and treatment and have an example of innovation or excellent care that you and your team are proud of?

Our on-line Market Place is an opportunity for providers and commissioners of mental health services, including partners from third sector, education and research, to highlight innovation and excellent examples of care. Take a look at Market place here.

You can find details of how to take part in the Market Place here. We are looking for teams to submit an A4 poster – the portrait template for these can be found here and the landscape template can be found here. The deadline for submissions is close of play on Monday 30 April 2018.
