By 2020, it is envisaged that more than 50 per cent of the country will be covered by the new care models. However, moving from 50 vanguards to this kind of coverage represents a significant challenge for those working in health and social care. Has the NHS ever set itself a bigger challenge? It’s an exciting time for everyone involved and we are proud to be leading the way and supporting improvement and integration of services.
Vanguards will act as blueprints for the future of the NHS so it is important to identify, early on in the programme, what the most effective ways of encouraging spread of the new care models across the health and social care system. In late January, we co-hosted (with NHS Providers) a workshop with representatives from NHS providers, commissioners, local government, patient groups and royal colleges to understand this better. It also included a number of national bodies including Monitor and the NHS Trust Development Authority (both now NHS Improvement), Health Education England, NHS England, the Care Quality Commission, The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and Public Health England.
