6 March 2017, 2pm – 3pm: A conversation about what prevents us from safely using nasogastric tubes
Last year NHS Improvement issued a Patient Safety Alert concerning the misplacement of nasogastric (NG) tubes. This is the fourth alert about NG tubes since 2005 and incidents of misplaced NG tubes continue to be reported to the National Reporting and Learning System (NRLS).
We know there is an enormous amount of evidence based research and best practice about the safe insertion of NG tubes, so we’re really curious to explore with you what other factors there could be that are getting in the way of doing this safely and causing these incidents to still occur.
So together with the patient safety team from NHS Improvement we want to host a conversation via webinar to hear from you about your experiences where you work of implementing the NG tube guidance, the challenges you faced and what you’ve learnt along the way.
The webinar will start with a quick rundown of the story so far about the safety issues of misplaced NG tubes, and then we will open the webinar to have a facilitated conversation. You’ll be able to speak, or use the chat room and take part in polls – how and how much you get involved in the conversation is up to you, but we think everyone has something important to share so don’t be shy! To help get you started with this, after you register we will send you some questions to have a think about before the webinar.
