Involving patients and the public

At the heart of Surrey and Sussex Cancer Alliance is the patient voice. Our ambition is to ensure that all services and improvements are developed and designed in partnership with our patients based on their lived experience.

Our patient and public participation strategy describes a new relationship with patients and communities centred on engagement, prevention and empowering people to participate in the NHS.  We will ensure that our patients, carers and the communities we serve are:

  • at the heart of everything we do
  • supported to proactively engage and contribute to decisions that impact on their care
  • engaged in a dynamic way which reflects the diverse needs of our communities
  • offer support to better understand and access organisational systems to inform and shape our services.

We will use the principles of co-production in our work. Co-production is a way of working that involves people who use health and care services, carers and communities in equal partnership and engages groups of people at the earliest stages of service design, development and evaluation.

If you are interested in becoming a public and patient champion please review the role description and return the completed expression of interest form to rsch.sscappeteam@nhs.net. View the Patient and Public Champions Welcome Pack – this contains information to guide you in your role as a Patient and Public Champion.

To do this, we are setting up local patient and public involvement hubs in Surrey, Frimley and Sussex and establish a group to drive our patient and public involvement.

If you would like to know more about our plans to involve patients and the public, or would like to get involved, please contact us.
