How we are funded
Wessex Cancer Alliance receives national funding to support:
- the uptake of cancer screening;
- delivery of the Faster Diagnosis Standard;
- implementation of best practice timed pathways;
- implementation of personalised care interventions, including personalised follow up pathways; and
- Cancer Alliance core teams.
Each year, Alliances are invited to apply for funding to support the development and roll out of innovative models of early identification of cancer.
How we are governed
We are accountable, through NHS England and NHS Improvement’s Cancer Programmes in the South East (for Hampshire and Isle of Wight) and South West (for Dorset), to the National Cancer Transformation Board.
We are also aligned to the Boards of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Sustainability and Transformation Partnership and Our Dorset Integrated Care System, which task Wessex Cancer Alliance to describe the future quality of cancer services in terms of outcomes and metrics, and in turn the STP and ICS commit to implement the Alliance’s recommendations.
Cancer Alliance Board
The Board meets quarterly to oversee the delivery of the Long Term Plan for cancer and the local cancer ambitions, and ensure we realise these ambitions within the agreed timescales.
It is made up of senior leaders from the local Sustainability and Transformation Partnership and Integrated Care System, provider organisations, clinical commissioning groups, specialised commissioners, primary care, public health, Health Education Wessex and the Wessex Clinical Research Network.
