The role of our primary care dental teams is to commission quality, accessible and timely NHS dental services for residents in the South East of England, across primary, secondary and community care dental pathways, implemented through national contracting mechanisms, enablers and frameworks, developed to support local commissioning of NHS dental services.

Special care and paediatric dental services

The NHS England and NHS Improvement South East Dental team is seeking to revise the timescale for the re-commissioning of Special Care and Paediatric Dentistry services.

The timescales are currently being considered through internal governance channels to look at whether these can be significantly varied and therefore obtain national authority to offer further contract extensions.

We will provide further updates on this website and on the InTend procurement portal. We anticipate providing a further update during February.

At present, we are planning to recommission contracts to provide special care and paediatric dental services with new contracts due to commence from April 2022.

We carried out a Health Needs Assessment, Health Equalities Impact Assessment and engaged with patients to inform the commissioning of services.
