Cancer

More people are surviving cancer than ever before, but we know that we can save even more lives by catching more cancers early and starting treatment fast.

Our NHS Long Term Plan aims to save thousands more lives each year by dramatically improving how we diagnose and treat cancer. Our ambition is that by 2028, an extra 55,000 people each year will survive for five years or more following their cancer diagnosis.

Improving and transforming cancer services

Cancer Alliances drive the changes needed to improve and transform cancer diagnosis, treatment and care in their local area.

There are four Cancer Alliances in the South East:

South East Cancer Programme Team and Delivery Group

The Cancer Programme team in the region is led by Vaughan Lewis, Medical Director and Cancer Programme Senior Responsible Officer, NHS England South East.

Vaughan also chairs the South East Cancer Delivery Group, which oversees the work in the region to deliver the Long Term Plan for cancer and ensures cancer waiting time standards are met.
