StartWell EndWell is a practical approach to support teams to do what matters, together, by fostering a psychologically safe culture…
It was developed by North Bristol NHS Trust’s senior clinicians, lead psychologist for staff wellbeing, quality improvement team, and perform team during the early stages of Covid19. StartWell EndWell has been designed to provide a practical approach to support colleagues and to promote effective teaming particularly during challenging periods.
The approach includes innovative parts of psychologically informed care, including aspects like psychological safety, behavioural science, and compassionate care, into some of the routine processes that teams are using, at the beginning, during and at the end of our working day. The approach has been piloted on clinical wards, but has been adapted to be relevant to a range of team settings.
Start Well End Well is effectively a 3 step team procedure:
- Step 1 is a check in (an enhanced safety briefing)
- Step 2 is an optional peer to peer PITSTOP
- Step 3 is an end of shift check-out
