NHS England statement on North Middlesex University Hospital Trust

A spokesperson for NHS England (London) said:

“Significant concerns have been raised about the care provided in the emergency department at North Middlesex University Hospital Trust and about the lack of proper support for and supervision of doctors in training.

“In response we, in collaboration with the Trust, local commissioners and NHS Improvement have taken a number of steps to improve care and support for staff. These measures include the recruitment of a new clinical director and additional medical staff as well as increasing the level of primary support to the hospital. All partners are committed to ongoing work with the Trust to ensure the department can provide excellent and sustainable emergency care services. NHS England and NHS Improvement have put in place enhanced monitoring arrangements to support delivery of the plans that have been made”

“All organisations involved have made it clear that they will not hesitate to act if they consider patients or staff are being put in unsafe situations.”
