East of England records record-breaking number of vaccinations

A record-breaking 600,000 life-saving vaccinations were delivered over the last seven days across the East of England region.

Commenting on the achievement, Tiffany Hemming, vaccination lead for the NHS in the East of England said:

“It is truly incredible that in one week the NHS covid vaccination programme has delivered a record 601,023 life-saving doses including 555,846 booster jabs.

“More than 17,500 people had their first dose in the past week in our region, showing it’s never too late to get vaccinated.

“Hundreds of thousands of people across the region have responded to the message from the NHS – please don’t wait around to get vaccinated. Get boosted now.

“On Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 December alone, more than 200,000 vaccination doses were administered in our region – our largest number in a weekend.

“Behind this big number is a huge effort from NHS staff and volunteers at all of our vaccination sites – day in day out they are continuing to go above and beyond, to ensure people get protected.”

The NHS is currently ramping up its delivery of the vaccine in an effort to offer a booster vaccine to all adults in England by the end of December following the emergence of the Omicron variant.

If you are aged 18 or over, or are eligible for other reasons, you can now book your booster jab three months after your last dose using the National Booking Service or by calling 119.

There is also the evergreen offer of a vaccine for those who have yet to have their first vaccination, including those aged between 12 and 15-years old.
