Bank Holiday health information for Londoners

As we get ready for the bank holiday weekend, NHS England (London) is sharing important information to prepare for the four day weekend, including how Londoners can access health services.

Not every GP practice will be open on the bank holidays but Londoners can still access services through out of hours GP access hubs, walk–in centres and by calling NHS 111 for advice or to be directed to the most appropriate local service.

In many areas, walk-in clinics and urgent care centres will be open. To get information about those services, check your local CCG website.

Remember to stock up on repeat prescriptions before the weekend but if you do need to visit a pharmacy a full list of their opening hours can be found here.

Across the capital, we’re giving patients increased access to GP services out of hours through primary care access hubs. Through these hubs, patients can now book appointments to see a GP in the evening or at weekends from 8-8 across 80% of London. This includes over the bank holiday weekend.

Over the bank holiday weekend, ring NHS111 if you urgently need medical help or advice, but it’s not an emergency. The service is staffed by a team of fully trained advisers, supported by experienced nurses and paramedics and is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

In an emergency, Londoners should dial 999 or go to A&E.

Professor Oliver Shanley, Regional Chief Nurse for NHS England and NHS Improvement in London said: “We hope that everyone remains healthy and able to enjoy the long weekend ahead but if you do become unwell, there are a range of NHS services available for you to use across London.

“In all parts of the capital, there will be enough services to cope with expected demand and all Londoners will be able to access any urgent care that they might need.”
