London shops to save lives: Primark hosts COVID vaccine clinics this bank holiday weekend

Primark is partnering with the NHS, Haringey Council and Westminster City Council, to host its first London-based COVID vaccine clinics from its stores in Oxford Street East and Wood Green on Saturday 28 August.

Anyone aged 16+ can grab a jab at these stores, and help save lives, while they shop on the bank holiday weekend.

The stores’ changing rooms will be transformed into purpose-built clinics, where shoppers can drop in at their own convenience – no appointment needed.

The clinics will be offering first and second doses of the Pfizer vaccine. Second doses need to be a minimum of 8 weeks after the first.

There will also be an opportunity for people to speak to health professionals about the vaccine to resolve any concerns some people may have, including around fertility, pregnancy and breastfeeding.

More than one million Londoners aged 18-29 (over 65%) have had the COVID-19 vaccine – with ten and a half million doses given in total to all Londoners.

These pop-ups, supported by Westminster City Council and Haringey Council, are part of the latest drive to further encourage vaccine uptake amongst younger people.

Dr Vin Diwakar, Medical Director for the NHS in London said: “It is fantastic that over 1 million young Londoners have had the vaccine, but it is vital that all get vaccinated to protect themselves from the harm coronavirus can cause even at their young age, as well as preventing transmission to more vulnerable friends and family.

“I urge everyone yet to get the vaccine to add this very important item to the top of their shopping list – get vaccinated.”

Pam Luxon, midwife at North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust and Clinical Lead for the Wood Green clinic said: “COVID-19 has not disappeared despite restrictions being relaxed. Infections are on the rise, putting more people at risk especially if they haven’t been vaccinated. The vaccines are proven to significantly reduce the chances of becoming seriously ill from the virus or worse.

“So while you’re shopping this bank holiday weekend, pop along to this clinic and help save lives too by getting your COVID vaccine to protect yourself and others.”

Joe Nguyen, Westminster Borough Director, said: “The easier we make it for people to access the vaccine, the more people we hope to protect from the potentially life threatening impact of the virus. We are delighted to be working with Primark this weekend to reach many more Londoners and to keep people doing normal things again, safely.”

Kari Rodgers, UK Retail Director for Primark added: “Following the success of the vaccination clinics in our stores in Bristol and Birmingham, we’re pleased to be able to offer people in London the opportunity to get their vaccine this weekend at our Wood Green and Oxford Street (East) store. Wherever we can we try to support important local community initiatives and we’re really pleased that we can play a small part in supporting the work of the NHS by making it even easier for people to get their vaccine.”
