Total number of Covid-19 vaccinations in the capital tops 14 million

More than 14 million Covid-19 vaccinations have been given to Londoners as the vaccination programme ramps up in the run-up to the festive period.

The NHS in London aims to give thousands more jabs each week over the winter months and has launched a recruitment campaign to help deliver the extra doses. Hundreds of vaccinators, both paid staff and volunteers (as well as admin staff and stewards) are being sought as the vaccination programme gathers pace.

London’s regional medical director Dr Vin Diwakar said:

“Just over a year on from the first jab, the NHS in London has now delivered a fantastic 14 million vaccinations. NHS staff and volunteers have made a massive contribution to protecting the lives of millions of people and as more people become eligible for their booster, the NHS is now recruiting hundreds more staff and volunteers to play their part.”

Vaccination efforts are ramping up in response to the new threat from the Omicron variant, with vaccination centres across the capital increasing the number of jabs they give every day. Nationally, 10,000 new roles are being advertised to help the health service provide booster jabs to millions more people.

The NHS is also working with the Royal Voluntary Service and St John Ambulance to recruit many more volunteers. See here for more information on opportunities to get involved in the vaccination programme.
