Celebrating Nursing Support Workers’ Day – 23 November 2025
NHS England is proud to celebrate Nursing Support Workers’ Day on 23 November and Midwifery Support Workers on 24 November 2025, recognising the invaluable contribution of nursing support workers across the Midlands region.
The term nursing support worker encompasses different job titles and roles, including health care assistants, health care support workers, assistant practitioners, maternity support workers and nursing assistants. They are the unsung heroes of healthcare, and the awareness days are opportunities to thank them for their commitment and celebrate the vital role they play across the NHS.
Across the Midlands, there are more than 38,049 nursing support workers. They are collaborative members of nursing and multidisciplinary teams, supporting registered nurses in delivering high-quality care for individuals and populations. Their dedication and compassion make a real difference to patients and communities.
Professor Nina Morgan, Regional Chief Nurse in the Midlands said: “Nursing support workers are the heartbeat of our healthcare system. Their dedication, compassion, and skill ensure that patients receive safe, person-centred care every single day. On Nursing Support Workers’ Day, we celebrate their extraordinary contribution and thank them for making a real difference in people’s lives every single day.”
