More than 12 million Covid vaccination doses delivered across the east of England region

Following the anniversary of the world’s first Covid vaccine being administered to Maggie Keenan in Coventry, the east of England has reached the incredible milestone of administering more than 12 million Covid vaccination doses to protect the community.

The NHS is currently ramping up its delivery of the vaccine in an effort to offer a booster vaccine to all adults in England by the end of December.

Ruth Ashmore, director of commissioning and executive lead for the vaccination programme for NHS England and NHS Improvement East of England, said:

“Administering 12 million vaccines across the region is such a momentous milestone and I’d personally like to thank everyone involved in the rollout of the vaccine programme in the east of England.

“In the coming weeks, we are rapidly expanding the vaccination programme to help our community get protected from the emerging Omicron variant.

“To protect yourself and the NHS this winter, we encourage all who are eligible for a vaccine to come forward and book a vaccination slot on the National Booking System.”

The NHS is currently appealing for volunteers, in partnership with St John’s Ambulance and the Royal Voluntary Service, to support the expansion of the vaccination programme.

Those interested in volunteering, or a paid role to support the Covid vaccination programme, can find out more here.

If you are aged 18 or over, or are eligible for other reasons, you can now book your booster jab three months after your last dose using the National Booking Service or by calling 119.

There is also the evergreen offer of a vaccine for those who have yet to have their first vaccination, including those aged between 12 and 15-years old. Those people are encouraged get a vaccine as the NHS Covid-19 vaccination programme seeks to protect the nation from the new Omicron strain of the virus.
