Extraordinary NHS staff honoured by the Queen this New Year

The tremendous effort from NHS colleagues across the North West has been recognised by the Queen in the New Year’s Honours list.

In a year that has truly tested the resolve and determination of those on the frontline and beyond, the New Year Honours List includes recipients working in the NHS from the North West, recognising them for their extraordinary contributions.

Bill McCarthy, North West Regional Director, NHS England and NHS Improvement said: “The NHS has seen a year like no other, where the NHS has had to dig deeper than ever before.  It has been a source of personal pride to me to see the response of
hard-working, dedicated, and committed staff across the North West tirelessly rising to every challenge they have faced to ensure our patients receive the highest quality of care.

To see so many of those people named in the New Year’s Honours is a fitting tribute and truly honours us all. I’d like to thank each and every member of staff working in the NHS across the region for their dedication and their effort, and congratulate everyone who was named for their services to the NHS for always going the extra mile and representing the best of the NHS in everything they do.”

From a General Practitioner to Specialist Pharmacist, a Physiotherapist and a Consultant Speech and Language Therapist working in Critical Care, the list represents a true cross section of the NHS workforce and shows the value each individual adds to every patient, family member and friend they care for.

Bill added, “I’m particularly pleased to see a member of the NHS England and NHS Improvement North West team, Karen O’Brien, honoured.  Karen is the Regional Chief Pharmacist and Controlled Drug Accountable Officer and has been honoured for services to Pharmacy and Patient Safety, particularly during the Covid-19 response.”
