New chief nurse for the North West

Hayley joins us from The Walton Centre

Hayley Citrine, the current Chief Executive for The Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust, has been appointed Chief Nurse for the North West for NHS England and NHS Improvement.

Ruth May, Chief Nursing Officer for the NHS said: “I am delighted Hayley has taken up this vital role and I know she will do a fantastic job supporting the incredible nurses and midwives working in the north west.”

Hayley replaces Jackie Bird, who retired as Chief Nurse at the beginning of this year.

Hayley Citrine, the current Chief Executive for the Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust said: “In one respect I am immensely sorry to leave The Walton Centre, yet also absolutely delighted to be appointed as Chief Nurse for the North West and I look forward to working with patients and staff throughout the region. “Thousands of hard working nurses play a significant role in the health of our region and I’m really looking forward to supporting them deliver the first class care the NHS is known for.”

Bill McCarthy, regional director for NHS England and NHS Improvement in the North West, said: “We are extremely pleased to welcome Hayley into the NHS England and NHS Improvement team. Hayley knows the North West area well having worked at a number of trusts across the region. She is a great nurse and leader and we look forward to seeing the impact she will make as part of our team.”

Hayley joined The Walton Centre in 2014 as Executive Director of Nursing and Quality and in February 2018 she took up the position of Chief Executive. Hayley’s career in the NHS started in 1985 and she has worked as Deputy Director and Associate Director of Nursing for a number of years following previous experience in a variety of clinical posts at the former South Manchester University Hospitals Trust, Salford Royal Foundation Trust, Warrington and Halton Hospitals Foundation Trust and East Lancashire NHS Trust.
