Media statement: Industrial action by resident doctors continues over the weekend and the NHS in the North West is urging people to continue to come forward for care.

Dr Michael Gregory, Regional Medical Director for NHS England in the North West, said: “This period of industrial action has come at a challenging time for the NHS as we manage winter pressures in the run up to Christmas.

“Although services are busy, our staff are working extremely hard to care for as many patients as possible. It’s vital that anyone needing care comes forward using the most appropriate service for their needs.

“If you’re unsure which service is best for your condition, please use NHS 111 online to check your symptoms and be directed to the right place – such as an urgent treatment centre, GP practice or pharmacy. Community pharmacies can provide advice and treatment for a range of minor conditions.

“During this strike, urgent and emergency care will be prioritised and people should continue to use 999 and A&E for life-threatening and emergency situations.”
