Local NHS staff feature in new campaign to explain support available within GP surgeries

The NHS in North East and Yorkshire have launched a new campaign, “Meet your General Practice Team”, to help patients better understand the roles of health professionals working in General Practice who are available to support them with their health care needs.

The campaign features a number of local NHS staff based in the North East and Yorkshire who explain in addition to General Practitioners how they can help patients. Some of those staff featured include, social prescribing link workers, physiotherapists, receptionists, care navigators, pharmacists, and nursing associates.

The purpose of the campaign is to demonstrate that in addition to GPs many practices are also staffed with a wider team of health professionals with specialist skills and knowledge.

Dr Jonathan Slade, medical director, NHS England North East and Yorkshire and GP in Stockton-on-Tees said:

“We decided to create this campaign to raise more awareness of the different roles and support available to our patients within GP practices. People often associate GP practices with GPs alone, when in fact good quality primary care is very much a team sport, with many other health care professionals working alongside GP’s to provide patient care and support.

“We wanted the campaign to have a friendly feel which is why we used local NHS colleagues within our social media videos and graphics. The aim is for people to get the right care, from the right healthcare professional at the right time.

“Meet your GP Team has already got off to a great start and has been shared widely by health and care colleagues across the region.”
