NHS Bus-ting Cancer Tour comes to North East and Yorkshire

The NHS Bus-ting Cancer Tour is coming to Sunderland and Barnsley this week to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of cancer and to encourage people to contact their GP practice if something in their body doesn’t feel right.

Following World Cancer Day, NHS England is running its ‘Bus-ting Cancer Tour’ with NHS staff in a specially designed bus travelling across the country to encourage people who are worried about a cancer symptom to contact their GP.

Part of NHS England’s Help Us, Help You campaign, the bus is visiting towns and cities with some of the lowest early diagnosis rates, including Sunderland tomorrow 7 February (Keel Square 10am-1.30pm and Sunderland International Bangladeshi Centre 2pm-4pm) and Barnsley on Wednesday (Market 10am-4pm).

The tour aims to tackle some of the key barriers to people seeking help, such as the fear around a cancer diagnosis, as well as encouraging awareness of bodily changes that could be a sign of cancer.

Health professionals are on hand at each stop to share further information and help people without a GP to sign up to their local service.
