The NHS in the North East and Yorkshire is encouraging those eligible for a flu or covid vaccine to take advantage of one of the thousands of appointments available to book via the National Booking Service over the coming week.

Health bosses are urging people at greater risk from COVID-19 and flu to get their vital protection before celebrating Christmas and New Year with family and friends.

New stats published today show that more than 1.8 million covid jabs and 2.4 million flu vaccines have already been delivered in the region to people who are most at risk of becoming seriously ill with these viruses, but many more people are yet to come forward.

Dr Yvette Oade CBE, Medical Director for NHS England in the North East and Yorkshire (pictured), said: “While this time of year sees many of us hunting for Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales, many of have yet to take up one of the best deals of all – a free NHS winter vaccination.

“With thousands of vaccine slots awaiting booking, I’d urge eligible individuals to book without delay and give themselves the best possible protection against serious illness or hospitalisation before the run-up to Christmas festivities.”
