More than half a million take up Covid-19 spring vaccination offer with others encouraged to come forward

Over 607,000 people in the South East have taken up the offer of a Covid-19 spring vaccination, with others being encouraged to come forward between now and the end of June.

Approximately 1.1 million people across the region are eligible for the vaccine, including those aged 75 and over, with a weakened immune system or care home residents.

The offer initially opened to adult care home residents on the 3 April, before being extended to all other eligible cohorts on 17 April.

Olivia Carmichael, Programme Director for the South East Covid Vaccination Programme, said: “One month into the NHS Covid-19 Vaccination Programme’s spring campaign, and more than half a million people have come forward for their top-up jab to keep up their protection from covid – that’s over half of everyone eligible which is great news.

“Although we’re learning to live with covid, the virus is still with us so we must continue to protect the most vulnerable in our society.

“If you are one of those due a jab this Spring but are yet to come forward – please do book an appointment online or via the NHS App.”

The campaign is set to end on 30 June when the offer of a first or second dose for anyone yet to come forward will also end as covid vaccinations move to a seasonal targeted offer.
