NHS staff amongst birthday honours and NHS photography competition shortlist

There are double celebrations in the South East of England as NHS staff from the region have been recognised in the King’s Birthday Honours List and shortlisted as part of a national photography competition.

Two regional consultants from NHS Trusts in Surrey and Frimley, a GP from Slough and a Chief Nurse from a Trust in Portsmouth are among dozens of frontline NHS staff to have been recognised in the King’s Birthday Honours List announced last week.

Three of the four (both Consultants and the Chief Nurse) received a Member of the Order (MBE), with a British Empire Medal (BEM) being awarded to the GP – all for making a significant contribution to healthcare.

David Radbourne, Director of Strategy and transformation at NHS England in the South East region, said: “The NHS is filled with skilled, compassionate and dedicated staff and I am delighted that four individuals from the South East have been awarded in the Birthday Honours.”

Continuing with the good news, nine members of staff working in the South East – four in Oxfordshire, four in Portsmouth and one in Surrey – have this week been shortlisted in a photography competition to mark 75 years of the health service.

“Again, this is tremendous news, and those shortlisted should feel very proud of their brilliant photography skills,” said Anne.

The national competition, run by NHS England in partnership with Fujifilm UK, saw hundreds of the health service’s staff and volunteers from across the country enter photographs that told their unique stories of what the NHS means to them.

Seventy-five photographers across England have been shortlisted, with each being invited to attend a special ceremony on the 4th July. This will take place at Fujifilm House of Photography where all of the finalist’s photographs will be unveiled. The winners of the competition will be announced ahead of the event.

Photographs submitted by those shortlisted will be displayed at an exhibition at Fujifilm House of Photography in Covent Garden, London and will be open to public viewing from the 5th July 2023 – marking 75 years to the day from the date that the NHS was established.
